The Department of Tourism of Fudan University mainly provides a series of professional courses, covering many key fields of tourism. These include:

Introduction to tourism: to provide students with basic knowledge of tourism industry.

Tourism public relations: teaching how to deal with public relations strategies and communication skills in the tourism industry.

Tourism psychology: to explore the psychological level of tourists' behavior and tourism experience.

Tourism culture: study the influence of different cultures on tourism and the cultural protection of tourist destinations.

Tourism economics: the application of economic analysis in tourism industry, including cost, income and market analysis.

Marketing: promoting the marketing and sales strategy of tourism products.

Travel agency management: to cultivate the operation and management skills of travel agencies.

Hotel management: it involves hotel operation, service management and strategic planning.

Scenic spot management: research and manage the operation and maintenance of scenic spots.

Development and utilization of tourism resources: exploring the impact and sustainability of resource development on tourism.

Specialized foreign languages: strengthen students' language ability to adapt to international tourism exchanges.

The department began to develop in 1989, and experienced the course from an elective course of history department to an independent tourism management major. In 1995, the postgraduate program of tourism management began to enroll students and became one of the earlier postgraduate education institutions in China. In 2002, the Department of Tourism was formally established, and its teaching and research work was supported by the Department of History. In 2005, in cooperation with the School of Management, he successfully applied for a doctoral degree in tourism management and began to recruit doctoral students.

The Department of Tourism has a strong faculty. At present, there are three doctoral supervisors, such as Professor Gu Xiaowu, Professor Rui Mingjie and Professor Su Yong, who are in charge of tourism resource management, tourism economy and industry management, and tourism management theory and strategic direction respectively. Professor Zhang Qing, the head of the department, also serves as the head of the history department.

In addition to undergraduate, master and doctoral education, the Department of Tourism is also responsible for the teaching of tourism management in online education colleges and adult education colleges, as well as the advanced courses of master of tourism management courses in cooperation with many industry organizations. Up to now, the Department of Tourism has trained 8 undergraduate students, with a total of 224 graduates. The existing students include 183 undergraduate students, 40 master students and 3 doctoral students.

The Department of Tourism of Fudan University is a new applied major that integrates tourism, management, economics, history and other disciplines. Its teaching philosophy pays attention to the combination of theory and practice, and its goal is to cultivate professionals who meet the needs of China's tourism industry. They have expertise in the fields of tourism management and modern enterprise management.

This major requires students to deeply understand the history, present situation and future development trend of domestic and foreign tourism, and master the core knowledge and skills of tourism management and enterprise management. Students should have extensive knowledge and keen problem-solving ability, and master at least one foreign language skillfully, so as to meet the work needs of tourism enterprises and institutions, tourism education, scientific research, tourism hotel management, international travel agency operation, tourism resource development and various foreign-related institutions.

Graduates have broad employment prospects. They can find jobs in tourism management departments of governments at all levels, tourism enterprises, foreign-funded companies, and even news and advertising media to show their professionalism and broad vision in the field of tourism management.
