The Danube flows through 10 countries.

Danube, the second longest river in Europe, is second only to Volga River in length. It originated in southwest Germany, flowed from west to east, flowed through Austria, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine (flowing through 10 countries in total), and finally flowed into the Black Sea.

The Danube River flows through 10 countries, making it the largest river in the world. The tributaries extend to Switzerland, Poland, Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Czech Republic and Slovenia, and finally flow into the Black Sea in Sulina, eastern Romania, with a total length of 2,850 kilometers, a drainage area of 817,000 square kilometers, an annual average flow of 6,430 cubic meters per second in the estuary and an average annual runoff of 203 billion cubic meters.

Introduction to the climate of Danube River basin

Danube river basin belongs to temperate climate zone, which has the nature of transition from temperate maritime climate to temperate continental climate. Especially in the west and southeast of the basin, the temperature and humidity are suitable and the rainfall is abundant. The estuary area has the characteristics of grassland climate, and it is cold all winter because of the influence of continental climate. Take Bucharest as an example. In summer, the temperature is above 20℃ for three months, and the highest temperature can reach 34℃. In winter, the temperature is below 0℃ for two months, and the lowest monthly temperature is -3.5℃.

As far as the whole basin is concerned, most precipitation occurs in summer and early autumn (June-September), and snowfall occurs in winter in alpine areas. The snowfall accounts for 10%-30% of the annual precipitation. Rainfall distribution in the basin is uneven. The Austrian Alps have the largest rainfall, with an average annual rainfall of over 2510mm and a maximum annual rainfall of over 3000mm. The areas with the least rainfall are the lower plains of Great Hungary, the lower parts of Morava Valley in Slovakia and the downstream areas.
