After graduating from the United States in 2023, I chose to spend a free trip in the United States and visit Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, and my first stop was in Washington, D.C.. In Washington, D.C., as the capital of the United States, it is not only safe, but also expensive, including food, accommodation and parking. The landmark buildings here, such as the White House, Congress, Museum and Union Station, are worth exploring by everyone who comes to the United States. Don't confuse Washington, D.C. with Washington State, which is located on the east coast and Washington State is located on the west coast.

For transportation, you can choose to go to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C. or Baltimore International Airport in Baltimore, Washington. From Baltimore to Washington, D.C., it is very convenient to take the train. There is a well-developed public transportation system in the city, and Apple mobile phone users can use the SmarTrip function in Apple wallet to travel. The overall area of Washington, D.C. is small, and it is also convenient to take a taxi and ride a bike. If you only plan to visit Washington, D.C., renting a car is not necessary, but if you plan to visit Baltimore, renting a car is an ideal mode of transportation.

In terms of accommodation, we chose a hotel in Georgetown, close to the city center and close to the Russian Embassy. Hotels in the city center are also good, but the price may be relatively high.

The main tourist attractions include the White House, Lincoln Memorial, Congress (online booking is required), Union Station, Pentagon (closed to the public), Washington Monument, Washington National Transportation and other landmark buildings. In addition, you can also visit embassies and museums around the world (such as naval museum, Natural History Museum, Space Museum, Indian National Museum, National Botanical Garden and International Spy Museum), and visit the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University and American University.

In terms of itinerary, you can introduce each visited scenic spot in chronological order. On the first day, I went to Washington, D.C. and visited Washington National Cathedral. The next day, I went to Baltimore to visit the University of Maryland, Johns Hopkins University and Union Station (I need to rent a car). On the third day, I visited the Capitol, National Botanical Garden, Space Museum and Indian Museum in Washington, D.C.. On the fourth day, visit Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, Franklin Memorial, George Mei Sen Memorial and Jefferson Memorial, and have lunch at Potomac Grille. On the fifth day, I visited the White House and the Washington Monument, and finally went to the Natural History Museum. On the sixth morning, after visiting the embassy group, I went to the airport.

In Washington National Cathedral, you can enjoy a discount with a student ID card. Union Station is one of the most representative stations in Washington, D.C., providing train services and connections with various modes of transportation. As a public research university, the University of Maryland attracts me with its strength in the field of engineering. In contrast, although Johns Hopkins University is famous, I prefer the geographical location and academic atmosphere of the University of Maryland. The Capitol is the seat of the highest legislative body in the United States. If you can make an appointment, you can visit the interior. As the highest judicial organ of the federal court system, the Supreme Court of the United States has the power to rule on the unconstitutionality of federal and state laws. The National Botanical Garden is a living museum that collects different plants from the United States and the world. The Space Museum displays important airplanes, rockets, missiles, spaceships and related items in the history of flight. The Indian Museum shows the history, culture and art of American Indians.

At the Lincoln Memorial, you can learn about abraham lincoln's important role in American history. The National World War II Memorial commemorates the 16 million American soldiers who served during World War II. The Martin Luther King Memorial celebrates its leading position in the civil rights movement and the speech "I have a dream". Franklin roosevelt Memorial Hall commemorates the longest-serving president in American history and his contribution to the anti-fascist alliance during World War II. George Mei Sen Memorial Hall commemorates George Mason, one of the founding fathers of the United States. Thomas Jefferson Memorial Hall is a memorial hall built to commemorate the third president of the United States. Potomac Grille offers lunch choices at moderate prices and good food quality. As the official residence of the president and the first family of the United States, the White House is one of the national symbols of the United States. The Washington Monument was built in memory of George Washington, the first president of the United States. It is a landmark building in Washington, D.C.. The Natural History Museum is one of the largest natural history museums in the world, with a rich collection of natural history exhibits.

After visiting the embassy group, I left Washington, D.C. by plane that day, ending this journey full of history and culture.

The full name of DC is District of Columbia, which means the District of Columbia.

Washington is usually represented by Washington D.C In order to avoid confusion with the' Washington State' of the United States and the West, D.C. is added.

Washington D.C, short for Washington, also known as Huadu and Washington, the capital of the United States of America, is named after George Washington, the first president of the United States. It is located in the northeast and mid-Atlantic region of the United States near Virginia and Maryland. It was established as the capital in 1790 and is directly under the jurisdiction of the US Congress, so it does not belong to any state in the United States.

As of 2016, the urban area of Washington is 177 square kilometers; In January 2019, the population was about 700,000. The highest authority in Washington, D.C., is the U.S. Congress, which implements management through the Washington City Government. But the citizens of Washington have only one voting representative in the House of Representatives and no representative in the Senate.

Washington, D.C. used to be a bush-covered land, with only a few cottages scattered among it. After Washington, the first president of the United States, chose this place as the capital, he named it Columbus to commemorate Columbus's discovery of the New World. Before the new capital was built, Washington died in 1799.

In order to commemorate him, the federal government and Congress named the new capital Washington when it was completed in 1800. The "capital" commonly referred to refers to the area occupied by federal government agencies; For example, "District of Columbia" refers to the area occupied by residents. The land occupied by government agencies accounts for about 1/2 of the area of the SAR.

The two parts of the English name of Washington,D.C reflect its dual identity. Washington is the name of the capital, while D.C. is the abbreviation of "District of Columbia", which is an area under the direct jurisdiction of the federal government.

Washington, D.C. is usually translated into Washington, D.C., to avoid confusion with Washington State with the same name on the Pacific coast. In order to distinguish it from the ordinary District, the word "special" is usually added to Chinese translation to show Washington's special position.
